It was later followed by a free-to-play expansion called Free to Slay. Its release in January 2014 was followed by a sequel titled Castle Doombad: Free to Slay, which was released on July 17, 2014.

The game is free-to-play, though it does support in-app purchases. You can purchase in-game currency to upgrade your castle and acquire special powers. The gameplay of Doombad is similar to that of other tower defense games. You take the role of the evil Dr. Lord Evilstein, a cross between Skeletor and Dr. Doom, and you have access to the castle and its entire area. The amount of traps you can place will depend on the currency you earn from capturing the princess. You will earn coins that you can spend on upgrades and new traps.

The game offers a variety of weapons, traps, and enemies to defeat. Initially, you can use a spear gun to attack from a distance, but later you can use cunning tactics to reach higher levels and double your score.
